Why do I have to pay a percentage up front?

Your initial payment acts as a deposit and ensures that the maker can purchase the materials necessary to create your custom item. Makers have several different payment terms to select from, depending on the cost of the custom project. The maker will specify the payments terms for your project in his or her proposal.

  • For proposals on projects up to $1,000, the maker will ask you to complete payment on one of the following terms:
    • 100% up front (typically used for less expensive projects)
    • 66% up front and 34% at completion
    • 50% up front and 50% at completion
  • For proposals on projects over $1,000, the maker will ask you to complete payment on one of the following terms:
    • 66% up front and 34% at completion
    • 50% up front and 50% at completion

For split payments, the initial percentage of payment will be due upon acceptance of a proposal, and the second percentage of payment will be automatically billed once the maker marks your project as complete.
