How do I add a listing to my profile?

As a maker on CustomMade, you have the ability to add an unlimited number of listings to your profile. Before we get started, let's run through a few definitions:

  • Your profile is your online presence on CustomMade. It includes your listings and information about you and your business.
  • A listing is a page that displays an item that customers can purchase from you, or that represents the type of work you do. Each listing includes up to six photos of the item, a title, description, price, and other information. The photos in your listing should be in focus, well-lit, and display each item from a few different angles.

There are two different types of listings:

  • With a Quick Order listing, the customer has three options:
    1. Instantly purchase the item as shown
    2. Instantly purchase the item after selecting from a set of options and upgrades that you specify
    3. Contact you to inquire about a fully customized item
In those first two cases, you get paid 100% of the purchase price up front, and deliver the item in the time frame you include in the listing.
  • With a Example Project listing, the customer can only contact you to inquire about a fully customized item. You and the customer would then discuss the project and agree on the price, payment terms, and the project specifics. You would then submit a proposal to the customer with those details. When the customer accepts the proposal, you would be paid in accordance with the terms in the proposal.

You can always change a Example Project listing to a Quick Order listing or vice versa by editing it. Creating either type of listing is simple. Here's how:

Creating a Quick Order Listing

  • Before you start, decide how much you'd like to charge for the item, the title you'll give it, and what kind of description you'll want to include. Gather the images of the item on your computer.
  • Log in to the My Listings page in your CustomMade maker account.
  • Click on the yellow "Add new listing" button at the top right corner of the page.
  • The Quick Order listing option should already be selected.
  • Add images of the item you're featuring by clicking the "Add photos" button on the right. Just click the button, find the photo on your computer or other device, and select it. Repeat the process for each photo you'd like to include. The photo that appears on the top left will be the featured photo in the listing, but you can drag a different image to that location if you'd like to feature a different image.
  • Under "Categorize your listing," select the options that best fits your item in the drop downs.
  • Under "Add a listing title," enter the title for the item.
  • Under "Describe your listing," enter your description.
  • Under "Indicate estimated completion time," select the number of weeks it would typically take you to build or create the item. Accuracy is important here, as you'll need to deliver the item in that time frame.
  • Under "Set price," enter the price for the item as shown in the listing. (Enter numbers in whole dollars only and leave out dollar signs and commas.)
  • If you'd like to offer variations or options for the listing (e.g., upgrade to a more expensive material, select the size, add an inscription, etc.), click the "Set variation type..." drop down and select "Dropdown" if the customer can choose from a defined list of variations, or "Text field" if you want the customer to be able to type in text. By default, the customer must enter something in a text field in order to complete a purchase. Check the "optional" checkbox if that shouldn't be the case.
  • For variations where you use the dropdown option, the first thing to do is enter a category explaining what the option is (e.g. "Select a color"). Underneath, enter the individual selections (e.g. "Blue," "Red," "Green," etc.). Note that the customer will have to make a selection before placing the order, so be sure that the default selection is included in the list. For example, if you have a listing for a silver ring, but want to offer an upgrade to gold, you would include both silver and gold as options.
  • When using the dropdown option where you list variations that add to the base price of the item, click on the "Add additional cost" link next to that option and enter the additional cost for that variation.
  • You'll generally use the text field option in conjunction with the dropdown option. For example, if you want to offer an inscription for an additional $50, you would add a dropdown with the category "Add an inscription" with "yes" and "no" options, then add a text field where the customer would enter the inscription text.
  • You can add as many variations as you like by selecting an option again using the "Add variations and options," dropdown.
  • Under "Set shipping rates," enter the amount you charge for shipping. You can have one shipping fee, or several based on the customer's location. For example, if you want to offer $10 shipping in the continental US, you would enter "Continental US" on the left, and "10" on the right. If you want to offer $10 shipping in Texas, but $20 shipping in other states, you would enter "Texas" on the left and "10 on the right, then click the "Add location" link and enter "US outside Texas" on the left in the new line, and "20" on right. You can add as many options as you need.
  • When you're done, click the "Add listing" button publish your listing, or the "Save as draft" link if you want to work on it later.
